Tea' Edwards is a remarkable young woman and has been a member at Johnny Mitchell Boys and Girls Club in Galveston for seven years, where she is a valuable leader tutoring in Power Hour and participating in SMART Girls, SMART Moves, Healthy Habits, Triple Play and Keystone programming.
Tea's impact is not limited to her Club. She has completed over 250 volunteer hours in the Galveston community by leading and organizing numerous events and feeding senior citizens. Tea' is passionate about addressing hunger issue with today's youth and starting community gardens in urban settings.
Tea' was motivated by the murder of her grandmother and her mother's alcoholism to use tragedy as an inspiration for good. She was able to overcome unstable times in her life with the support of Club mentors who kept her focused and involved at the Club and in school.
She is ranked 16 in Hitchcock High School's senior class and maintains a GPA of 3.16. She is dually enrolled at College of the Mainland where she completed 27 semester hours of college work that will allow her to graduate from high school with a diploma and an Associates degree in General Studies.
Tea' will be speaking at the 2016 Great Futures Dinner.
